We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Asthana. With his demise, we have lost one of the most brilliant oncologists that IMS, BHU and our country have ever produced. He was an exceptional teacher, administrator and mentor. Prof. Asthana was a rare combination of Academic brilliance and uncompromising discipline. His dedication to the department and to his student was absolute, he always paid extraordinary attention to detail-whether in patient care, academic work, departmental function and administrative decision making. His meticulous working style set bench marks for clinical precision, ethical practice and institutional responsibility, long before such terms became fashionable. Despite his towering academic contributions and hundreds of publication he reminded a man of remarkable humility, staying away from personal acclaim and focusing entirely on work, duty and mentorship. We shall forever miss his warmth, his discipline, his unwavering support and gentle smile. His legacy will live on through his students, his department and countless patients whose life he touched. May God grant peace to his noble soul and strength to his family colleagues and students to bear this irreparable loss.
